His interaction with you and your counterparts at the table can swing your opinion to either extremes and this is what makes the job of a card dealer all the more important and at the same time challenging. In this post we will have a look at the reasons that can entice you to this profession.

In most casinos, dealers get to keep all tips as their own, thus simplifying the money making matra. Be nice, delight your customer and get rewarded for being the reason behind a good experience.

Educational requirement – Minimum: To be a professional card dealer does not require any specific certifications or degrees as such. In fact many casinos train their dealers on job over a period of few days. However, there are a few schools in USA and UK that offer courses in this field e.g. National Gaming Academy, UK.(Note: Even though there are no mandatory requirements of education, it is absolutely crucial to have good people-skills).

Work Conditions – Excellent: This is a profession in the entertainment industry which is strongly based on the quality of service provided and maintained for its customers. It is not surprising that as a thumb rule all casinos go out of their way to make the casino environment as comfortable and pleasurable as possible for their customers. A dealer at all times surrounded by customers who are in a happy mood and are there just to have some fun. More over in a chic environment! Almost all casinos allow flexible shifts, lots of benefits and generous breaks to their card dealers.

Experience – Vibrant: Being a professional card dealer exposes you to an array of experiences both on personal and professional levels. Sharing experiences with comrades not only gives you an insight into the intricacies of the profession but also helps you to learn and to add to  it, once you have made your mark as a competent card dealer, you can also opt for transfers within the same company but different locations or even departments.

If these reasons have already piqued your interest in this profession, you may want to consider a couple of suggestions

Game of Choice: With the number of card games being played daily, you might want to choose a game that you look forward to work with may it be Texas hold’em or Black Jack.  It’s best to choose a single card game to begin with. Once you have decided your game, try and learn as much as you can about the game, rules, the dealers role and his responsibilities, where it is played, which casinos have tables (and vacancies) for dealers etc. If possible meet dealers in your area for more information and guidance.

Card shuffling: Though no formal education is required it’ll be an added advantage to know a few shuffling tricks, (USPs to attract customers to your table!) after all, who doesn’t like to be entertained?

Legality: Like all professions, being a card dealer also comes with some mandatory legalities. Make sure you know all of them or at least those that can directly affect you like licenses and related documents.  Depending on the country you wish to work in, you may have to provide some documents such as age proof and acquire various licenses required by their governments.

The 1st technique that will require to be learned is fundamental math. A strong poker player knows the prospects inside the game, and of particular card matchups. In addition to all other card games, poker is dependent mainly on stats and possibilities. Understanding when you should fold and call the bet turns into 2nd nature when knowing the possibility at the rear of striking the flush or river card. Weak poker players neglect this factor of the game, and therefore endure the repercussions. Really never be one such player and ensure that you have an understanding of the possibilities and flourish under it.

The 2nd technique you really should be concentrating on is self-discipline. Poker is a game of excellent perseverance and for that tolerance you will need solid self-control. Never play loose and take needless gambles when the situation doesn’t warrant it. A self-disciplined player is aware of when you should play or the best time to fold their cards; they develop knowledge of the game and only play when they’ve the advantage.

Very last but most assuredly not least is state of mind or psychology. Examining your adversaries and foretelling of their upcoming steps is debatably the most crucial of all abilities and skills. Being familiar with what opposition players have in their hands, what they assume you may have, and what they believe you would imagine they have got. Perfectly guessing these 3 can provide you an enormous benefit across the other players. This is certainly much more essential in No limit games to limit games, as bluffing is more frequent.

Take into consideration these 3 important online poker skills and develop them to make an impression on your friends at the upcoming poker night. Texas Holdem Hand Ranking

There is more than one system used to evaluate starting hands in Texas Hold’em, and the one that holds true for you will depend on your personal online poker strategy. That’s why Ten-Ten also frequently appears in these lists. Don’t be surprised to see the bottom ranks switched up frequently depending on the ranker’s personal preferences.

That said, AA is universally considered to be the best starting hand in Texas Hold’em. That’s because it’s a made hand – in other words you’ve already got a combination – and it’s the highest possible pair in the deck. Your odds of getting a pair of deuces and a pair of Aces are the same, but your odds of winning with either vary greatly. For example, it’s quite common to see a player with pocket rockets go all-in pre-flop, but a player that goes all-in with a baby pair is probably desperate.

Where the top Texas Hold’em starting hand lists start to differ is after the third best hand of QQ. Now the value of the pairs are getting low enough to be easily beaten if an opponent pairs higher on the flop, which means that many players would rather have suited connectors that offer outs toward everything from a pair to a straight or a flush.

Other players disagree and will always favor a made hand, and these players tend to be more aggressive pre-flop as they protect their vulnerable pairs. Texas Hold’em Players that prefer post-flop action will find that suited connectors offer more options when drawing and will rank them accordingly.

There are other, more advanced variables to consider when evaluating your hand. These include: table size, your own stack size, and your position at the table. For example, at a nine-player table, the odds of one of your opponents getting a better starting hand are high. In these scenarios, most players only want to put their chips behind the best starting hands in Texas Hold’em. Alternately,  when you have fewer opponents the relative strength of middling hands increases as the odds of someone having a better hand decrease.

Statistically, the odds of winning with any of these hands are so close (and so good) that you’d be advised to go into the flop with Kings even if you knew your opponent held Aces. After all, the flop is the great equalizer; what’s most important is that you go into it well-armed in Texas Hold’em.

Omaha 8 – General Tournament Strategy

If you are going to play in an Omaha Hi/Lo (also known as Omaha 8 or better) online poker tournament, you will have to make some adjustments from typical ring game strategy and play. Unlike a cash game, you can’t refill your chip stack when you run out in a tournament. Add in the fact that the blinds continue to increase, and the strategy for a tournament can be significantly different. It doesn’t mean the fundamentals of the game change however, it just means that you need to account for the changing dynamics that a tournament creates.

One thing you should be doing in a tournament is seeing more flops early. The main reason for this is because the blinds are low and your stack size is deep in comparison (usually). Your goal during these stages is to accumulate as many chips as possible so that you can handle the quick swings of the later stages. Seeing as many flops as possible and playing a smart post-flop game is a good way of doing this. When you are in position, it is often correct to speculate in multi-way raised pots with what would be a very marginal hand in a cash game. You’ll more than likely lose a few bets here and there seeing a lot of flops, but your primary objective is to be scooping the big pots that more than make up for those small losses.

Later in the tournament, the exact opposite is true. You want to see fewer flops and will need to tighten up your game considerably as the blinds increase. It is not uncommon in the later stages of a tournament for the average stack to be somewhere between 10-20 big blinds. Seeing two hands to the river and losing at this stage can cripple you, if not eliminate you completely. At this stage, it’s best to stick with premium hands. It’s also important when the stacks are shallow like this to be aggressive pre-flop. Players are much more likely to fold to a pre-flop raise at this stage because the raise amount actually can damage their stack.

One last thing that is important to consider is the adjustments that need to be made in a tournament, especially in the later stages. You should know where you stand in relation to the rest of the field at all times. If you’re getting close to making the money, it is a good idea to know where your stack size shapes up in relation to the remaining players. If you are in danger of not making the money, you have two choices – wait and hope people bust out, or be aggressive and try and accumulate chips while people are playing ultra tight. This Writer is more in the latter camp…I’d rather take my chances to put myself in a position to win the big money than to just squeak into the money and barely make a profit. That choice, however, is ultimately yours.

In addition, knowing how to adjust to short-handed play is important in tournaments. You will often be playing five to seven handed in the later stages of a online poker tournament and will need to adjust the hands you play. A hand like A-3-x-x that would be unplayable at a full table is often a very big hand at a six handed table.

Bluffing in Deuce to Seven Triple Draw

The essence of all draw games is that every card dealt to or drawn by online players is hidden from everyone else at the table. As a result, games of draw are much more likely to feature bluffs than corresponding stud games, where many of the cards can be seen by all the players. Deuce to Seven Triple Draw is no exception to this phenomenon, as you will have any number of opportunities to allow your opponents to come to the wrong conclusion about what you are holding. This article will focus on bluffing in Deuce to Seven Triple Draw, and will give you another weapon in your arsenal to use in becoming profitable in this game.

Online Poker

As with bluffing in any game, you need to strike a balance with how frequently you attempt it. If you never bluff, it is unlikely that you will get the kind of action you want when you finally hit a big hand. However, if you bluff too often, your table image will suffer to the point where you will no longer be able to bluff at all, as the other players will automatically call you down with less than premium hands, knowing it is likely that you are just making a play at the pot.

Most bluffs in Deuce to Seven Triple Draw involve getting your opponent to think that you have a made pat hand when in fact you have no such thing. There are a variety of situations that arise that create opportunities for this type of play.

Let’s take a look at some of them:

One of the classic situations for running a bluff is when you have been dealt or have drawn most of the deuces in the deck. As you should know from reading some of the other articles on PokerWorks, deuces have incredible power in this game, since it is impossible to make a seven-low hand without one. For example, you come to the second draw and have seen all four deuces, and have a hand such as 2-2-2-3-4, you can often take the pot down by simply standing pat and betting out after the draw, since you know that your opponents are going to have a hard time making anything that will challenge your “pat” hand.

Another time it pays to stand pat is for a positional bluff on the third draw. Let’s say that you and your opponent each drew one card on the second draw, and you have position on him. He checks. What do you do? Since you know that it is likely that he missed his draw, one way to play the hand is to bet out, and if he calls, stand pat. Then, if he checks again after the third draw, you bet out once more, hoping that he mucks his hand. If he makes a jack high or worse, he will almost always give the hand up, and you will take the pot. Notice that this play gives you the opportunity to win the hand two different ways: 1) If he folds to your bet before the third draw, or 2) If he folds after your bet at the end. Unless you are playing against a very loose player (in which case you should be hesitant to make this move), you will win one of these two ways most of the time.

If you are going to run a pat hand bluff, you are better off avoiding standing pat before the first draw, as most players will be very suspicious of such a play. It is almost always better to draw one on the first draw, and then stand pat, which creates a much more believable scenario. Be aware that if you stand pat right away, players are more likely to put you on a rough nine or even a 10-low, and will be more eager to draw against you, thinking they can beat you by the end.
In addition to using the presence of a number of deuces in your hand to power a bluff, you can also do the same with either a combination of deuces and sevens, or sometimes with other low cards that pair your hand, but which are now unavailable for your opponents to draw. As always, know your opponents well enough to be aware of who will keep drawing to the bitter end, and who will fold if they don’t hit on the first two draws.

Just as you will use the presence of low cards that pair your hand to trigger most of these plays, you want to avoid running bluffs when you are dealt and/or draw high cards. The reason for this should be obvious: If you were dealt high cards, then it increases the likelihood that your opponent was dealt low ones. Bluffing in this situation is almost an invitation to the other players to pick you off. If you stick to bluffing in the situations described above, you will arrive at a properly low percentage of bluffs that will have less chance of being exposed and a better opportunity to take down pots without showdowns.

If you find that bluffing isn’t your style, keep in mind it is absolutely essential that, if you are going to be a winning online poker player, you find it within yourself to commit larceny from time to time, stealing pots that really belong to others by representing a hand that you simply don’t have. As you begin to do so, you will start to find the best possible times to pull off these heists, and you will also start to enjoy doing it more and more. Once you’ve successfully bluffed an opponent out of a pot, you will wonder why you were ever afraid of doing it, and you’ll look forward to doing it again as soon as possible.

Stealing Blinds in No Limit Texas Hold’em

Stealing blinds is one way of ensuring survival in a no-limit Texas Hold’em game.  If you steal enough blinds, you can be in the game a longer time than your initial stack warrants.

What Is Stealing Blinds?

Stealing Blinds

Stealing Blinds

In Texas Hold’em, there are obligatory opening bets from the small blind and the big blind (the first and second

player to the left of the button provides the small and big blinds, respectively). Together, they make up the initial pot.

Stealing the blinds refers to trying to win the initial pot or trying to win the blinds. Stealing the blinds serves a two-fold purpose: it will let you win extra chips, unchallenged, and help you reduce the size of your opponents’ stack.

Poker is a game of monumental skill and nerves.

How to Steal Blinds ?

In order to steal the blinds, you must make all your opponents drop out of the betting round/s pre-flop. The best way to do this would be to raise and re-raise during the pre-flop betting round. If you are under-the-gun and you wish to steal the blinds, bet more than the minimum. If you are in a middle position or a late position, you should multiply the minimum bet by around two times. In other words, if you are trying to steal the blinds, bet aggressively and avoid mini-raises.

Stealing Blinds Strategy:

If you are a late-position player, you are in an advantageous position to steal the blinds. If most of the players have folded before the betting action reaches you, you can dominate the game and steal the blinds.

If you are short-stacked and wants to steal the blinds, it would be much better to go all-in rather than wait to be raised. Take the lead in betting whenever you can. Additionally, if only a few players are at the table (the game is short-handed), stealing the blinds is good strategy because you are obliged to post blinds more often than not and you’ll run out of chips much sooner.

You should not try to steal the blinds all the time, however. Trying to steal the blinds means you have to make hefty raises. If another player plays you and you miss the flop, you’ll lose all your bets. Furthermore, not all blinds are worth stealing. If the blinds won’t significantly increase your stack, perhaps you should just let it go. If, however, the blinds will make a sizeable addition to your stack, then by all means go for it. The rule of thumb be selective of the blinds you’ll try to steal.

Different Stages of MTT Tournament

MTT tournament are the poker tournaments where the number of participants exceeds the maximum number of players per table, so you play on multiple tables. These MTT poker tournaments are generally the most interesting in terms of money invested / reward potential. Often compared to an expense in the buy-in of a few Euros, you can put into play to win awards for thousands of dollars by winning MTT tournament. But MTT tournament involves hours and hours of play against a large number of participants experienced and determined to go all the way.
It can be daunting to decide on playing MTT Tournament as it requires too much patience to play such poker tournaments. This question might come to your mind “How to play MTT tournaments?” There is no miraculous strategy for MTT tournament. The only theory exists here is “the more you practice it, the more the chances of winning MTT Tournament”, but there is some good advice that can help us to do the best at MTT Tournament. Here are a few.

Dealing with Different Stages in MTT Tournament

Initial Stage of MTT Tournament

At the beginning phase of MTT tournament, it is recommended to play safe game and only to push really big hands like- (AA, KK…). The early stages of MTT Tournament are, in fact, important to consolidate and increase the stack and to steal the blinds. The magnitude of the dark, on the other hand, allows you to go see the flop cards with small / medium – as long as the call remains of small entities.
In fact, especially if the bet is called by many players at the table, it is “easier” to play hands with low cards. Same thing goes for pairs and small suited cards while the low level of the call must be played, but never enough to justify big raise, or even all-in.
For the same reason you must withdraw without hesitation when you have your stack in danger, not to pursue projects and not improbable peg against a particular opponent. Because a small investment is good to see the flop but a big loss would undermine the whole MTT tournament.
The only golden rule is to keep in mind in the first hours of MTT tournament is: you cannot win, lose, however, is easy.

Intermediate Stage of MTT tournament

In intermediate stages of MTT tournament, when approximately 30% of the players went out, we have increased our stack or at least kept it intact. From this moment on, the blinds are becoming more “interesting” and it’s time to play seriously.
It is worth exploiting your reputation and make occasional bluffs at this moment of MTT tournament. The other player, believing that your bids are the result of high cards, fold gladly. The advice is to have the best position (button, big blind and small blind) at this stage of MTT tournament. As the final table comes closer, you will notice many players trying to avoid the risk of being eliminated just before you get to winning positions. So, always try to avoid clashes with the chip leader unless you have a strong hand. For them it is much easier to see your raise and could follow without too much fear. Try to play more solid with some occasional bluffs and take advantage of the position, and this is how you can approach the final table.

Final Table stage of MTT tournament

Final table is a very crucial stage of MTT tournament where you have to play with fair amount of chips that you have collected after playing hours and hours. At this stage of MTT tournament, the strength of the stack is more important than the strength of the cards. Make a better use of the chips and try to steal the blinds from those who haven’t large amount of chips.
If you do not have the opportunity to raise or you are not in a great location, or a big stack has raised before you, and avoid clashes with folding high cards or pairs would be too expensive to handle one of the chip leaders. Of course, if you have your AA or KK, then it is a different kettle of fish.
And if you arrive at the final table with a low-stack, probably means you are in dormant mode and you need to wait/hope that other players get out before you. Or you have another option of playing more aggressive with the first pair or high cards. It’s a risky tactic, of course, but remember that at this stage of the game, antes and blinds will bleed to death in a short-term and going all-in could be almost the only choice.

Heads up stage of MTT Tournament

Heads up is the final moment of MTT tournament. Try to stay focused and to manage the psychological decline that inevitably will try to get hold of you. Remember, this is a phase in which most of the hand is won by those who are active in pre-flop attacks. Be aggressive, sustained your opponent (who will raise against very often) and push on the accelerator with any high card that has passed through the hands, especially by exploiting the favorable position (when you have the button). Even a single ace could be a boon (by going all-in) from heaven.
The only cards that you can afford not to “push” are big pairs AA, KK, QQ. You may not believe but these cards in heads up stage of MTT tournament can be used to tend a trap your opponent. Try t come and see the dish and make him believe that you can conduct the hand up to push him to declare all-in. And then punish him.
As always, these are just some of the many possible strategies that can help you to win MTT tournament. The advice is to take this into account but use them wisely to build your own your game. Because ultimately, it all about your experience. The more you play poker, the more you get used to various poker tips and strategies to win at poker games.
