Texas Holdem Strategy For Single Table Tournaments

Monday, June 27th, 2011

In single table tournaments you should always try and play tightly in the early stages of the tournament, and should try and capitalize on good hands. All it takes is one big pot, then you can ride it out and wait for your next big hand as players knock each other out of the tournament.

Always be cautious while playing aggressively on suited connectors. Their value is lower than you’d expect since people are going to be short stacked. If you still decide to call, only do so near the beginning of the tournament.

When you’re down to the last few and the blinds become very big, aggressive play and blind stealing can be very effective. Remember that with fewer players at the table, weaker hands such as pairs are much stronger – make sure you keep on the aggressive with those hands and continue to scoop up blinds to maintain your chip lead.

Do pay special attention and keep track of the players you’re competing against since you may run into them again if you continue playing single table tournaments with the same buy-in.

If you do find yourself short stacked (running out of chips), wait for the right moment to go all-in and double your stack. It’s all or nothing – desperate times call for desperate measures!

Strategy And Tips To Play Chinese Poker

Monday, June 20th, 2011

Chinese Poker is a game that requires excellent observation skills.

Unlike Hold’em poker, were you sometimes have to face players that put a ruthless
attack on other players by betting on their cards or bluffing their way into the game  but on the other hand Chinese poker is a silent game.

As soon as the cards are dealt the other players, the game will commence with players arranging the cards there will be no additional betting, just arranging of cards between the players. In rare occasions there may be a time frame but most of the time, the players are given a free hand on how long will arrange the cards.

This makes Chinese poker somewhat difficult for some players to pick up. It is difficult to understand what is going on in the mind of other players. Some may display clues but the main clue that you’ll have when playing this game is the cards that you hold.

The strategy of arrangements of the cards usually differs depending on the prize. If you’re playing against the dealer, the objective is to win two out of three parts of the hand.

The parts that you should always give importance are the back and the front part. The back should always have the best hand possible while the middle and the front are the sacrificial parts of the card.

Since you already have the best part at the back, chances are your cards for the middle part will only have less arrangement. For example, you only have two pairs left after a full house at the bottom. Instead of concentrating the pairs in the middle, distribute them. The pair in the middle will have to take a fall since two pairs in the middle is almost as nothing as a higher card However, when you transfer your pair to the front, you’ll have a bigger chance of winning since you have a stronger hand. If you’re playing against a stronger card, you still can match your hand since your bottom and front sets are really strong.

Do make sure that the pair in your middle card will not be lower to your front card.

If incase that happens that happens, then your card will never be able to play and you will automatically lose the round. You will not have the chance to win all three but you will have the chance to ace two.

This strategy is also effective if you’re playing against the players with a pot for the highest card.

Bonkowski Wins First WSOP Bracelet for Canada This Year

Monday, June 13th, 2011

Bonowaski wins WSOP bracelet in a $3000 buyin Limit Hold,em tournament, this achievement rewarded him with $220k. Bonowaski outperformed 337 players to be at the first place. With this he becomes the first Canadian to win a bracelet at 2011 WSOP.

After winning Bonowaski said “It’s unbelievable, as a poker player the bracelet is what you want. You get a trophy to go along with your win.”

Bonowaski who lives in Regina, Saskatchewan stared playing poker about seven years ago while attending the University of Regina. Bonkowski immediately took to the Limit Hold’em cash games and it wasn’t long before he dominated them. Bonowaski said that about 90% of his income earned in his life came from playing poker. Online poker site 888poker also decided to sponsor Bonkowski and he started appearing at more and more live tournaments.

“I started playing a lot more online MTTs,” he said. “That’s how you get better. Limit cash games started to get kind of boring at that point.”

Bonkowski has the advantage of being a Canadian as he is still able to play online poker after most major online sites were forced out of the U.S. market in the events of Black Friday.

But he says “The Limit cash games have pretty much dried up,” he said. “The prizepools in tournaments are also smaller but seem to be juicier.”

Of the 14 bracelets won so far at the 2011 WSOP, ten have gone to Americans, two to players from Great Britain, one to a Russian player and now one to a Canadian.
